Have A Laugh At Bentley Lodge Guest House Torquay

FIREMAN AND THE LITTLE GIRL

A Fireman is polishing his fire engine outside the fire station when he notices a little girl next door in a little red cart with little ladders hung on the side and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.

The little girl is wearing a fireman’s helmet and has the cart tied to a dog and a cat.

The fire-fighter walks over to take a closer look:

“That’s a lovely engine”, he says admiringly. “Thanks”, says the little girl. The fire-fighter looks closer and notices the little girl has tied one of the carts strings to the dog’s collar and one to the cat’s testicles.

“Little colleague”, says the fire-fighter, “I don’t want to tell you how to run your fire engine, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat’s collar, I think you could probably go a lot faster”

The little girl pauses for a moment, looks at the wagon, at the dog and at the cat, then shyly looks into the fireman’s eyes and says:

“You’re probably right, but then I wouldn’t have a siren, would I?

Making Torquay More Accessible

Work starts to reverse flow of traffic through Torre

January 21, 2016

Work on the first part of the major scheme to reverse the flow of traffic through Torre has started.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of March and will then allow vehicles more direct access to Torquay town centre.

The first part of the scheme is taking place at the traffic signal junction of Tor Hill Road and Abbey Road, locally known as Central Church. Provision will be made to allow outbound traffic from Castle Circus to turn right into Tor Hill Road.

Between now and March further works will be undertaken at the junctions of Teignmouth Road, Upton Road (Brunswick Square), Union Street, Laburnham Row and Union Street. Traffic flow will be finally reversed in Union Street prior to the forthcoming Spring.

Councillor Mark King Executive Lead for Planning, Transport and Housing said: “For over two decades there has been a debate about changing traffic routes into Torquay Town Centre. The current traffic flow towards the Town Centre is less than direct in contrast to the ‘exit’ routes which are much easier to navigate.

“This discourages movement into the town centre and the new route will replace the current circuitous and sometimes congested route that all vehicles currently must take, improving journeys for businesses, shoppers, visitors and commuters by all modes of transport.”
The scheme will also feature extensive route resigning works, as well as the relocation of a number of bus routes.

The reversal of traffic flow within Torre has been an aspiration of the local traders and community groups for many years.

The scheme has been funded by the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Once completed the scheme will see traffic being able to get into Torre and the Town Centre more easily; reducing delays, congestion and improving air quality. Pedestrians and cyclists will also benefit from new crossings and opportunities for improved routes.

“Wonderful!”

Wonderful!

We booked this lovely B&B at the last minute and were so glad we did. All the previous TA reviews are right - Bentley Lodge is a real gem and Kim and David are perfect hosts.

Our room was perfect for us - a ground floor room that was spacious and spotlessly clean (including the en-suite) with a very comfy bed (so comfy we overslept each morning). Then there were the extras - a hospitality tray, a fridge with bottled water and an iron and ironing board. There was real care and attention given to make sure we had everything we needed.

Our breakfasts were very well cooked and beautifully presented - on our first morning we both had a 'Full English' and on our second morning we had poached eggs on toast. We know that poached eggs can be tricky to get right - Kim served eggs perfectly poached. We were very happy guests.

With the added luxury of free parking we literally wanted for nothing.

Kim and David are very knowledgeable of the local area and restaurants and were able to give us some great restaurant tips which proved invaluable.

Will we go back - definitely!

Should you try it- you bet! Why would you want to go anywhere else!!

“What a corker !!”

“What a corker !!”

We decided to stay here really at the last minute.
It was my birthday weekend and wanted to do something different.
Saw this hotel on the web and thought it looked lovely.
The reviews were good so thought we'd try it out.
We weren't disappointed. It looked great from the outside and even better from the time we entered.
The owners Kim and David made us feel very welcome from the time we checked in.
We choose room 3 on the first floor. A lovely room. Immaculately clean. Nice bedding and a beautiful en suite. The hotel is a credit to them both.
You couldn't wish for a nicer hotel to stay in.
The breakfast menu was very good. I chose to have a full English each morning , which was absolutely lovely.
Parking was great too, not a problem. But if you chose to leave the car behind, all it took was a 15mins walk into Torquay.
A great location.
Unfortunately can't find any negatives to report.
Try it out and see for yourself.
Thanks Kim and David for having us.
See you both soon.
Mark and Matt
